Year 2 Warwick Castle Trip

Year 2 have been surrounded by one thousand years of jaw-dropping history, magic, myth and adventure in their first trip of the year to Warwick Castle!

We were able to explore the towers, battlements and maybe a secret dungeon or two as part of our project on Towers, Tunnels and Turrets!

 

This experience enriched our real life experience of castles and helped us to understand their purpose in history.

We were able to use the language that we had generated in our class lessons and the technical vocabulary related to castles.

As we walked through the medieval area we could talk about the various features of the castle and relate this to why they were useful.

We learnt about the famous King of England, William the Conqueror and how Warwick Castle was developed from an original built by William the Conqueror in 1068.

We watched the mighty Trebuchet which was used to hurl huge projectiles to breach the castle walls. Large rocks and stones were the main ammunition and we were able to see how this huge catapult would have been used.

We even had a go at putting our heads in the guillotine!

Overall, this was an unforgettable experience for us all and we will be going back to school to follow up our amazing visit with lots of learning including writing our Newspaper Articles and using a wide range of materials, we’ll build models of castles and test the strength of our structures!
